Direct access to the cardiologist, without detours

You book your appointment directly with us. Without a referral from your GP, without a waiting list, without weeks of lead time. All diagnostics take place in our practice in Zurich, at our two locations in Enge and at the Utoquai.

This gives you full flexibility, whatever your insurance.

What happens in 60 minutes

Your appointment begins with a thorough conversation. Your cardiologist asks about your current complaints, your history, medication, allergies and family history of heart disease. This conversation is not the ticking of a checklist but genuine listening: what worries you, what has changed in the past weeks or months, which questions are on your mind.

If you have brought findings from earlier examinations, they are included here. Then the physical examination: heart rate, heart rhythm, blood pressure in both arms, pulse status, circulation and auscultation of the heart and lungs. Next the instrument-based diagnostics, directly in the practice.

A resting ECG, to measure the electrical activity of your heart and detect arrhythmias, conduction problems or signs of ischaemia. 3D echocardiography, to assess cardiac structure, pumping function, heart valves and wall motion in detail, an ultrasound that shows in real time how your heart works. If exertion-related complaints are suspected, an ergometry follows (exercise ECG on the bicycle), to see how your heart responds under effort.

A blood sample checks cholesterol (LDL, HDL, triglycerides), cardiac biomarkers (troponin, BNP), blood sugar, kidney values and inflammatory markers. At the end you sit down with your cardiologist. Every finding is explained in understandable language: what is normal, what is abnormal and what needs to happen next.

You receive a written report and a concrete action plan, whether all clear, medication, lifestyle changes or a follow-up in three or six months.

Who the private cardiology consultation is for

You have chest pain, palpitations, breathlessness or unexplained fatigue and want to know whether your heart is the cause, rather than waiting weeks for a specialist appointment at a public hospital. You have cardiovascular risk factors: high blood pressure (arterial hypertension), elevated cholesterol (hypercholesterolaemia), diabetes mellitus, excess weight, or you are a smoker, and want your personal risk of heart attack or stroke assessed before anything happens. You have no complaints but a family history of heart disease, early heart attacks or sudden cardiac death in the family, and you want to be on the safe side.

Your GP found abnormal results, an ECG with rhythm abnormalities, altered blood or imaging values, and you need the specialist interpretation of a cardiologist who can tell you what this means specifically for you. You are coming out of hospital, after a hospital stay, a cardiac procedure such as a stent implantation, pacemaker insertion, ablation for atrial fibrillation or heart surgery, and you need follow-up that is more than a brief check every six months. Or you are looking for a cardiologist who accompanies you over the long term, reviews your therapy regularly and brings your lifestyle, your stress level and your personal situation into the treatment, not just the laboratory values.

Prevention and preventive cardiology without complaints

Not everyone who sees a cardiologist has symptoms. Many of our patients come because they want to do something active for their heart health before a problem arises, well before any emergency. Preventive cardiology in our practice means: determining your individual risk profile, based on age, sex, pre-existing conditions, family history, blood pressure, cholesterol and lifestyle factors such as exercise, nutrition, alcohol consumption and occupational stress.

Recognising early signs that cause no complaints yet but deserve treatment, such as a mild valve change seen on the echocardiogram, an early thickening of the heart wall (left ventricular hypertrophy), a blood pressure pattern still in the grey zone but raising the long-term risk of heart attack and stroke, or subclinical atherosclerosis in the carotid vessels made visible by ultrasound. Drawing up a concrete, individual plan for nutrition, physical activity (which sports, how often, how intensely), stress management and, if needed, preventive medication with statins, blood pressure lowering agents, antiplatelet agents or anticoagulants. The private consultation gives you the space to discuss all of these topics calmly.

Sixty minutes for your questions, your concerns and your personal health goals.

Your heart, your pace, your cardiologist

In our practice you set the pace. We explain every finding in understandable language and answer all questions. Even the ones you did not dare to ask elsewhere because the waiting room was full, the consultation was over after six minutes, or because you felt you were a nuisance.

You are not a nuisance here. That is what we are here for. If further treatment is needed, a Holter ECG over 24 to 72 hours, a new medication regimen or an adjustment, a referral to the cardiac surgeon, an interventional assessment by cardiac catheter or an ablation for atrial fibrillation, we organise the next steps together.

You do not have to coordinate appointments yourself or send findings back and forth. Your cardiologist remains your dependable point of contact. At every visit he knows your story, your findings, your medication and your personal situation.

You do not have to start from scratch each time and explain yourself anew. That is the difference between a clinic that administers you as a case number and a practice that knows you as a person and where you feel cared for. Ongoing care with us means: regular checks in a rhythm that suits your situation, every three, six or twelve months.

Adjustment of the therapy when your values or your circumstances change. And always an open ear when something new comes up between the planned appointments that is on your mind.

Frequently asked questions about the private cardiology consultation

Do I need a referral?

No. You book directly with us, without going through your GP. If you have a referral, we can bill through basic insurance (OKP). Without a referral we bill through supplementary insurance.

How long does the appointment take?

60 minutes, including the conversation, physical examination and instrument-based diagnostics.

Do I get the results on the same day?

Yes. Your cardiologist discusses all available findings (ECG, echocardiography, physical examination) with you directly. Laboratory results requiring external analysis follow within a few days.

Can I bring earlier findings?

By all means. Doctors' reports, ECGs, echocardiography findings, laboratory values, hospital discharge reports, everything helps your cardiologist place the overall picture faster and more precisely.

Where do the consultations take place?

At our two locations in Zurich: Enge (near the Klinik Im Park, Villa Hofmann, district 2) and Utoquai (district 8). Both are easily reached by tram and S-Bahn.

Can I choose a particular cardiologist?

Yes. When booking the appointment you can indicate which doctor you would like to see.

What does the consultation cost?

The cost is based on the scope of the diagnostics. With a referral, billing runs through basic insurance. Those with supplementary insurance can come to us directly without a referral.

Your team for the heart.
